How to Save and Restore a Version in Webflow
Learn how to back up and restore a Webflow site version: automatic backups, manual backups, and export.
In this tutorial, Sandro, cofounder of Gemeos Webflow agency, shows you how to back up and restore a version of your Webflow site.
1. Open the version history
In the Designer, go to Project > Backups in the menu (or use the clock icon at the top). Webflow shows the last 30 saved versions, with the date and time of each publish.
2. Create a manual backup
Before making a major change, click Create Backup to save the current state without publishing. This backup is timestamped and appears in the list.
3. Restore a previous version
In the backup list, click the version you want to restore. Webflow shows a preview. Click Restore to roll back to that version. Restoring doesn't publish automatically, so check the result in the Designer before publishing again.
4. Export the project locally
For a complete external backup, go to Project Settings > Export and download your project's HTML/CSS/JS code. This isn't a format you can reimport into Webflow, but it does give you an archive of the generated code.
Conclusion
Webflow automatically backs up your site every time you publish. Create a manual backup before any risky change. See also: export CMS data.
