What are the key elements of good product design?
Good product design simultaneously meets three requirements: it is useful (it solves a real problem), usable (the user understands how to use it effortlessly), and desirable (it makes users want to return to it). Most products fail on the second criterion: technically functional, but too complex to use.

The decisive criterion: does the agency start with users or aesthetics? A serious product design agency begins by understanding user journeys, existing pain points, and business objectives before touching a single screen. If they propose mockups without conducting user research, that's a red flag.

The cost of product design services varies depending on the product's complexity, the number of screens, and the level of user research included. For an MVP or a partial redesign, expect to pay between €5,000 and €20,000. For a complete product with a design system, projects often exceed €30,000.
The retainer model is often best suited for post-PMF startups that regularly release new features. Instead of restarting a project with each evolution, the designer is familiar with the product and iterates directly.
What's the difference between UX design and product design?
Product design is an evolution of the UX role. A UX designer focuses on the user experience: user journeys, wireframes, usability tests. A product designer covers all of this and adds a business dimension: they understand growth objectives, technical constraints, and make design decisions that directly impact product metrics (activation, retention, conversion).
When should product design be integrated into a project?
As early as possible, ideally before writing a single line of code. Design errors are ten times cheaper to fix in Figma than once they've been developed and are in production. In practice, many startups integrate product design too late: after building a functional but difficult-to-use MVP, they call on a designer to "fix" the interface. This is longer and more expensive than starting on the right foot.
