UX design and UI design: what's the difference?
UX design (User Experience) handles the navigation logic: user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, and the hierarchy of actions. UI design (User Interface) handles the visual layer: colors, typography, components, micro-interactions. One without the other produces either a beautiful but unusable interface, or a functional but unappealing one.
At Gemeos, both are handled in parallel from the design phase onward. We don't deliver wireframes and then layer a design on top afterward: both dimensions are thought through together, which avoids inconsistencies between functional logic and visual execution.
When should you redo your web design?
Four concrete signs indicate that a web design overhaul is needed: your conversion rate is stagnating despite decent traffic, your site no longer reflects your current positioning, it isn't optimized for mobile, or your competitors have a clearly stronger digital presence than yours.
What shouldn't be confused: redoing the design because you're tired of it, and redoing it because it's holding back growth. The second justifies the investment. The first, rarely.

The number one criterion is the ability to connect design with performance. A web design agency that only talks about aesthetics without mentioning conversion rates, visual hierarchy, or technical SEO won't help you grow. It will just make you a nice-looking site.
Also check: does it deliver editable source files? Does it have references in your industry or on projects of a comparable size?

The price depends on the scope: number of pages, level of customization, integrations, animations. For a well-designed startup showcase site, expect between €5,000 and €20,000. For a more complex site with a CMS, simulators, or API integrations, the range climbs to between €15,000 and €50,000.

How long does a web design project take?
A standard web design project (a 5-to-10-page showcase site) takes between 4 and 8 weeks from the brief to launch. More complex projects with a CMS, advanced animations, or API integrations can take up to 12 to 16 weeks.
The factor that extends timelines the most: back-and-forth on the design when positioning decisions haven't been made upfront. The clearer the brief at the start, the faster the project.
Does a web design agency also handle development?
It depends on the agency. Some only do design and outsource development, others cover both. The difference matters: when design and development sit within the same team, iterations are faster, technical constraints are factored in from the design phase, and the final quality is more consistent.
