How to Create Multilingual CMS Pages in Webflow

Learn how to create multilingual CMS pages in Webflow: native Localization, language-specific collections, translated fields, and WeGlot.

In this tutorial, Sandro, cofounder of Gemeos Webflow agency, walks you through the different ways to build multilingual CMS pages in Webflow.

Approach 1: Webflow Localization (recommended)

Webflow Localization has been the native solution since 2023. It automatically handles localized URLs (/fr, /en, /es), hreflang tags, and CMS content translations. It's available on paid plans starting at $29/month. It's the most complete option for a site that’s seriously multilingual.

Approach 2: CMS collections by language

Create one collection per language (for example, "FR Articles", "EN Articles"). Each collection has the same fields, but translated content. The URLs are separate: /blog/fr/[slug] and /blog/en/[slug]. Simple, but you need to maintain two collections in parallel.

Approach 3: Translation fields in a single collection

Add duplicate fields for each language in your collection (for example, "Title FR", "Title EN", "Description FR", "Description EN"). Create two separate Collection Templates, each one showing the fields for its language. Cost-effective, but harder to maintain at scale.

Approach 4: WeGlot

WeGlot automatically translates your site and handles localized URLs. Add the WeGlot script to your Webflow head. You can then manually edit the machine translation in the WeGlot interface. A great option for existing sites that need a fast translation.

good to know

For multilingual SEO, hreflang tags are essential: they tell Google which version of the page to serve based on the user's language. Webflow Localization handles them automatically. With the other approaches, you'll need to add them manually in each page's head: .

Conclusion

The best approach depends on your budget and how much content you have. Use cases:

  • SaaS targeting multiple markets: Webflow Localization
  • Bilingual blog with a few articles: Collections by language
  • Brochure website that needs a fast translation: WeGlot
