How Do You Add an llms.txt File to Webflow?
Learn how to create and deploy an llms.txt file on your Webflow site to guide AI engine crawlers to your most important pages.
The llms.txt file is the AI-engine equivalent of robots.txt. It tells LLM crawlers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Anthropic, Gemini) which pages on your site are the most relevant to read and index. Sandro, cofounder of the Webflow agency Gemeos, explains how to implement it on Webflow.
What exactly is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a text file placed at the root of your domain (yoursite.com/llms.txt). It follows a simple Markdown syntax and lists the important pages of your site with a short description of each section. It was proposed by Jeremy Howard in 2024 and is gradually being adopted by the major AI crawlers.
1. Create your llms.txt file
Here is the typical structure of an llms.txt file for an agency website. Adapt each section to your own site.

Webflow doesn't let you upload arbitrary static files to the root of your domain. The workaround is to create a dedicated CMS page, then make it accessible at the /llms.txt URL using a redirect.
- Create a new page in Webflow with the slug "llms-txt-content"
- Add an "HTML Embed" element and paste the contents of your file inside a <pre> tag
- In your Webflow project settings, under "Redirects," add a redirect: /llms.txt to /llms-txt-content
- Publish and check that yoursite.com/llms.txt returns the content correctly
3. Alternative: host it via an external service
If the redirect method doesn't work for you, you can host the llms.txt file on a subdomain or through a service like Cloudflare Workers, which intercepts requests to /llms.txt and returns the static content.
4. Keep the file up to date
Update your llms.txt every time you add a strategic page. An outdated llms.txt file with broken links is worse than no file at all: it creates confusion for crawlers.
| llms.txt section | Recommended content | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Header (#) | Site or brand name | Required |
| Description (>) | 2-3 lines about what the site does | Required |
| Main pages | Home, services, about, contact | Required |
| Resources / Blog | Articles, guides, tutorials | Recommended |
| Optional sections | FAQ, case studies, testimonials | Optional |
Conclusion
llms.txt is one of the fastest GEO actions to implement: 30 minutes is all it takes. It sends a signal of credibility to AI crawlers and gives you an edge over competitors who haven't set it up yet.
- Use case 1: an agency that wants LLMs to better recognize its positioning and services
- Use case 2: a SaaS whose documentation is important and needs to be well indexed by AI
- Use case 3: a content site whose guides and tutorials need to be easily discovered by AI crawlers
